Information

Welcome!
As an English professor, I am committed to student success and equity.  To that end, I partner with students to develop classrooms that foster an atmosphere in which teaching and learning is done together. I serve in the Strategic Committee for the School of Language Arts and Education, and I am also the Zero Textbook Cost and Open Education Resources (ZTC/OER) Faculty Coordinator.  In this position, I train other faculty in ways to create Zero Textbook Cost courses to help alleviate the financial burden of expensive textbooks, increase access, and support student completion efforts at the college.  Finally, I am a member of the Latina Leadership Network (LLN).

Prior to teaching in the English Department, I taught ESL courses and served in the college administrative team as the Library & Learning Center Manager.

Biography

I am originally from Costa Rica, a beautiful, green country in Central America, where I taught English as a Second Language and English for Engineering and Secretarial students.  I am a mother who enjoys spiritual and family time.  I am also a culture junky.  I love traveling, meeting new people, trying new foods, and learning about cultures in general.  In my free time, I write, garden, swim, and hike. I also enjoy playing scrabble.
