Biography
After graduating from Turlock High School in 1984, I found myself, like many teenagers, unmotivated to go to college, so I decided to join the army. In retrospect, this is a decision I have never regretted because the military taught me many life lessons and helped shape me into the person I am today. However, I always knew that at some point in my life I would need to go to college. After being honorably discharged from the army after seven years, I found myself sitting down with the VA representative at MJC deciding on what classes to take for the Spring 1992 semester. A year and a half later in the Fall of 1994, I graduated from MJC and transferred to California State University, Stanislaus to pursue a degree in English. Two years later I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree and headed to Chapman University to earn my teaching credential. With my degree and credential in hand, I applied for a teaching position at Manteca High School. I was subsequently hired in 1998 and continue teaching high school English there today. Feeling the need to further my education, I decided to apply for the English master’s program at California State University, Stanislaus. In June of 2010, I completed the program and earned a Master of Arts degree in Rhetorical and Teaching Writing (RTW) with a Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Certificate. With this degree I now had the unique opportunity to return to MJC to teach English, and since being hired in 2012, I have had the chance to teach English 45, 100, 101, and 103.
My journey in life didn't initially begin with going to college, but it eventually did lead to college. And through hard work, determination, and perseverance, I was able to earn an Associates of Arts degree, Bachelor of Arts degree, and Master of Arts degree and become relatively successful. Where ever you are in your journey in life, I wish you the best of luck and hope that I can help you find success and achieve your dreams.
