Biography

Hello my name is David John Coate (I go by John). My journey in higher education began in 1981 when I started attending Merced College after graduating high school. I really did not do well during my first two years and decided I would get a job and continue my education at another time. I started working in the Industrial Maintenance field and ended up as an Electrical and Integration Manager. The fast-paced environment & ever-changing technology was where may passion for electronics and the IoT grew. In 2013 I returned to Merced College, and I was able to complete my AA degree in Industrial Electricity. After receiving my degree in 2015 it opened a door to becoming an adjunct instructor and finally to becoming a full-time instructor at MJC.
