Introduction to Sociology
An introductory study of the basic concepts, theoretical approaches, and methods of sociology. Topics typically include the analysis and explanation of social structure, group dynamics, socialization and the self, social stratification, culture and diversity, social change, deviance and globalization. Course objectives include the ability to apply sociological ideas to everyday life. - SOC 102,
Social Problems in the United States
The study of contemporary social problems within the American society emphasizing, among the other topics, alcohol and drugs crime and violence, education, medicine, health family problems, power, class, ethnicity, and gender inequalities. Construction of possible solutions to social problems will also be analyzed within a classic and contemporary theoretical sociological framework.
