Information

I grew up in Patterson, was on the Pep Squad, and worked as a soda girl and French fry cook at Bill's Burgers. I started my college education right here at Modesto Junior College.  When I was a student, I drove a little yellow VW I bought with some of the Bill's Burgers money I had saved, and I still have that little VW and drive it to this day.    I earned my first MA degree in Composition and Rhetoric from California State University, Stanislaus, in 1990. Still, because so many of my students were non-native English speakers, and because I wanted to be better prepared to help them succeed, I continued on to acquire an added concentration in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), completing my TESOL Certificate from CSUS in 1995 and my MA in TESOL in 2005. I also have experience teaching preschool, elementary school, high school, and at the UC level in addition to experience teaching in a drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility.  I have taught at MJC since 1987. In the early 90's, I began directing and teaching in the MJC Writing Center and loved this interactive writing community.  In 2002, I returned to the classroom to teach English 49 and English 50.  My hope was to bring the Writing Center's interactive community into the classroom.  I loved teaching at MJC but retired in 2014.  In fall of 2015, I taught a critical thinking class at UC Merced.  I loved doing that but missed MJC's students and environment.  In Fall 2022, I returned to MJC as an adjunct instructor to teach English 101.  I'm am very excited about this opportunity!  I love my work and feel inspired and motivated by my students every semester.   I feel so blessed!  Each day, I GET to come to work!  :)
