Biography

Welcome! I am in my 25th year as a full-time Professor of Child Development for our district. The first 16 years were at MJC, and I'm in my ninth year, full-time at Columbia College!

I briefly attended MJC as a student on my journey to CSU Stanislaus where an undergraduate and graduate degree were completed in Psychology with an emphasis in counseling. My Associate's Degree in Child Development was completed at Grossmont Community College in San Diego.

My devotion to the field of Child Development began to emerge when I was pregnant with my first child, Jess, and while taking a Child Growth and Development course. It was with the birth of my second child, Blayne, that I began to truly understand the uniqueness of each person, the incredible, wonderful dynamics of siblings, and the continued delights of my favorite job, parenting! With the added the title of grandparent, the adventures with each one continues to fill my heart with contentment and happiness. The passion has continued to grow for the last 40 years, and I only have to look into the eyes of a child to remind me of the wonders and joys of life!

I have two grown children and a husband that I have celebrated over 46 years together! We have added to our a family our daughter's spouse, seven lovely and fun young adult grandchildren, and two younger, fun, curious and very social grandchildren, a seven-year-old grandson and four-year-old granddaughter with their never-ending smiles and energy! For me, there isn't any better "job" than being a parent, a grandparent, and part of my family! Saying that, I absolutely love my job and spend hours each week teaching, grading and interacting with the amazing students in my classes!

In my downtime, I look forward to spending time with family, camping, daily walks along the river, reading fiction, playing the piano, and my latest hobby, learning how to play the ukulele! I ran my first half marathon with my daughter and husband in Carlsbad which lead to completing two marathons in Modesto with my husband! Gardening is my therapy and at least once a week, I love to indulge in hot tamales (the candy) and popcorn! We are a family who loves animals and have two dogs and two cats! Cheers! Pam
